Restoration
of the water cycle on the high basin of San Juan de Dios river.
About
us?
The
faculty 604 "Management and technology to the sustainable
architecture and urbanism" it's in the Architecture school of
the University of Guadalajara (Universidad de Guadalajara). We are a
group formed by proffesors, students and graduates, with concern to
find solutions to the high impacts in the environment caused by urban
sprawl, this generate a damage to the water resources.
Theorethical
framework.
Project
was born with the necessity to show the negative impact of the urban
growth on the basin of San Juan de Dios river, in specific in the
high basin and his alteration on the water cycle.
The
project is based in the sustainable development, which is defined
like: the satisfaction and needs of the present time without
threatening the capacities of the future generations.
In
the Integrated Management of the Water Resources promotes
the management and the development of the water, the land and the
resources.
The Urban Sustainable Management of Water, seeks in the authorities the administration of the local waters in harmony, this to maximize the environmental benefits.
The Water Sensible Urban Design seeks to mitigate the environment impact in the amount and quality of the water and the management of the water resources cause the urbanization.
Agenda 21 in the chapter 18 talk about the protection of the water and supply.
The millennium development goals in the goal number 7 about the sustainable development and the environmental.
The hydrologic cycle which is the cycle where the water came to the groundwater by the rain, this through the evaporation of the sea water. The water of the groundwater in the high basin down until the sea.
The drainage basin it's the territory drained for only one natural drainage system to the sea by a only one river. This is divided into high basin, middle basin, down basin and the transition zone, this one close to the sea.
Involvement of the basin we cut see the disorderly urbanization on the riverbeds and the water bodies, many times so close to them, causing flooding and lack of water resource.
This cut be possible thanks to the citizen participation.
Study
area.
The
study area is located in Mexico, in the west side of the country, in
the Jalisco state, in center region, on the municipality of
Guadalajara in Cruz del Sur zone.
Like historical antecedent the zone has a lake from El Deán park to Agua Azul lake, in the park with the same name. There was a great ranch, "El Rosario", this ranch occupied a great piece of territory, then this ranch has a great division, and born El Deán ranch
The urbanization begin in 1955 with the industrial zona (Zona industrial) approved in the same year and build in 1957. Behind, another zones like El Fresno or El Tepopote was in the place around the industrial zone, separated by Calzada Las torres, now Calzada Lázaro Cárdenas. Another neighborhoods in the 60 and 70 was Echeverria, Villahermosa and Miravalle.
Natural
physical environment.
The
zone it's a plain from El Deán to Balcones del Cuatro, since this
neighborhood until the hilltop the land begin to have a natural
inclination. In the vegetation, the team found nine species of native
flora, 27 induced and 7 harmful. In cuestion of fauna the team found
45 species of native birds in El Deán park, wich one 30 are
permanent residents, and 15 are migratory.
The
land in general terms it's good, it have sand, for this reason the
infiltration it's good. In the hilltop of Cerro del Cuatro the team
found a potential in the land like Bosque de la Primavera. The point
that suffer floods are localizated in Colonia Ferrocarril, Lázaro
Cárdenas with Gobernador Curiel, 8 de julio and Colón, and in
general in Gobernador Curiel avenue, this is the most conflictive
with the floods.
Transformed
physical environment.
The
water services, electricity and drainage are for all, we mind, the
population is served. In the zone there's two important
transportation, the "tren ligero" or Guadalajara Metro in
Colón avenue, also there's a system of BRT in Gobernador Curiel
avenue called "Macrobus". The most conflictive cruises are
Lázaro Cárdenas with 8 de julio and Colón. Gobernador Curiel it's
the most conflictive avenue.
Technical
study.
This
studies are maked with the objetive to show the negative impact of
the disordely urbanization on the hydrologic basin, in wich
the allows flood waterproofing.
The
metodology that we use were the utilization of management programs of
rainwater (Storm water management model) created by the Environmental
Protectional Agency EPA.
The
high basin of San Juan de Dios river it's divited in 40 micro basins.
We
used the isohyet provided by the Secretaria de Comunicaciones y
Transportes of the mexican goverment, we obtained a design rain
lasting 5 hours and a return time of 10 years, with a rain intensity
of 72 milimeters for each micro basin.
What we propose? The infiltrations of the principal avenues, in Cerro del CUatro, in El Deán park and it green areas.
Hydraulic solutions. Given the inconsistency in radius and diameter of the drainage, the solution will be drainages with a similar radius and diameter, also enlarge the drainage system. This to lessen the flood points, in Gobernador Curiel, Lázaro Cárdenas and others. Another propose is the rainwater catchment systems in houses, school, BRT and metro stations and urban equipment, also the vegetation, the trees in green areas.
Cerro
del cuatro
The
project is the rescue and renovation of all the mountain ubicated in
the south of Guadalajara.
The propose in general is this, in the north of the mountain make a park with many dams to the water, equipment in general, and also to practice sport and many activities. In the south of the mountain there will be a wood for a controled forest explotation.
Torre
de comunicaciones
With
the propouse of replace the multiple antennas localizated in the
hilltop of the mountain, because there's generate a bad urban image,
this project is one antenna for all the antennas of comunication,
with this give a better image and make an urban landmark.
Balcones
del cuatro y Canal del sur.
The
neighborhood of Balcones del cuatro is localizated in the south of
the city of Guadalajara, in the foothills of Cerro del Cuatro, down
of the basin is localizated Canal del sur, a channel build with the
purpose of retain the water comming down the hill. Also the dam in
Balcones del cuatro have this purpose.
The
project is the renovation of the dam of Balcones del cuatro and the
channel Canal del sur, wich one will be a introduction of native
species of trees and vegetation, walkers, islands in the case of the
dam, against the equipment, places of recreation and cycle routes.
Also a civic square against the Universidad Tecnológica de Jalisco.
El
Deán
El
Deán park (Parque Liberación for the Guadalajara City Hall) is a
park localizated on Calzada Lázaro Cárdenas, in the down fo the
high basin of San Juan de Dios river. The park have a dam, wich one
has the function to retain the water down the hill Cerro del Cuatro,
however in this last time the park and the dam have an evident
abandonment and pollution.
The
purpose is a deep rescue of the park and the dam. In the park will be
the introduction of native species of trees and another vegetation,
new walker with new equipment, new sports areas and a zonning of all
the park, this because we want a park for all the groups of the
people, since young to old people, we want an inclusive park. In the
dam, will be clean through a change of drainage to separate the
rainwater from the contaminated water and this not come to the dam.
Just the rainwater with the downwater in the dam, to give a recharge
and full the same dam.
